Norman (Tommy) Thompson retired from the Army in 1947. While in the Army he had been in the band, and played the flute. He married Anna E. (Betty) Givens in 1929 and they had three daughters, Carla, Betty and Linda. In the 1950's Tommy and Betty sold their home in Springfield,Ill. and bought an airstream travel trailer and travel the states. While traveling through Texas they found a quaint little town in South Texas and bought some property, and built a small house. He built the house by his self. They used this as their home base and would travel and them come home for a while and then set out again.He was a rockhound and always came home with a van load of rocks. He had a rock shop in the back of the house and he would cut and polish and make jewerly. He also loved to cook.
