Julia Elizabeth Smith, 86, a resident of the Fort Madison Nursing Care Center, died at 1:55 a.m. today, March 26, at the Fort Madison Community Hospital. She had been seriously ill one month.
Mrs. Smith was born Nov. 19, 1895, in Clark county, Mo. She had lived in Fort Madison 66 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist church and the Adah Circle of the church.
On Jan. 12, 1916, at Keokuk, she was married to Charles Edwin Smith, who died in July 1950.
Surviving are a son, C. E. Smith, Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur W. Cowles, Fort Madison, and Mrs. James E. Gray, Lakewood, Colo.; and eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers, a sister and a grandchild.
The body is at the Barr Memorial Chapel where final rites will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The Rev. L. Duane Churchman will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakland cemetery.
Friends may call anytime Sunday at the Barr Memorial Chapel where the family will meet friends from 7 to 8 Sunday evening. A memorial is being established with the Fort Madison Nursing Care Center. Contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
