Eldred Elbert Gallagher, Mt. Vernon, went home to be with the Lord April 29, 2010, at the age of 80 years, 6 months, and 11 days. He was born on October 18, 1929 in Raton, N.M., to John M. and Ada (Carr) Gallagher. Eldred was an U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War and retired from the Missouri Department of Conservation. He married Joretta F. Hembree January 30, 1955 in Republic, Missouri and they were blessed with four children. Survivors include his four children, Janis A. Young, Minnesota, Beverly J. Gallagher, Gary L. Gallagher, and Susan J. Streit and husband, Matthew G. Streit, all of Missouri; two grandchildren, Derek B. Young and wife, Angela, Missouri, Delaney J. Anderson and husband, John, Minnesota; one great granddaughter, Arrabella Suzanne Anderson, Minnesota; one brother, James E. Gallagher and wife Trish, Missouri; a half brother, Vincent Gallagher and wife Marge, New Jersey; a nephew, Brendan J. Gallagher and wife, Charlotte, and a great nephew, Sean Gallagher, all of Missouri; many other relatives and friends. A visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2010 in Meadors Funeral Home, Republic, with funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Burial, with military honors,will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Republic.
