Donald Eugene Van Fleet was born August 9, 1916 to Clifford and Ethel Van Fleet. They resided in Mount Vernon through most of his growing up life. Donald married Lucille Green on April 24, 1941 (with the Michalsky's as best man and bridesmaid) at the Van Fleet residence at 5 Carpenter Place, Mount Vernon NY. They then settled on Carpenter Drive at that same address in Mount Vernon. They had two children, Clifford Van Fleet, named after his father, and Donna Van Fleet. He worked on the poles for the phone company, he also was a singer and organ player, and played on the radio on occasion. He battled with major back issues after he hit his 40's, and went through multiple surgeries, and struggled to recover for many years. In 1978, he and Lucille moved to Clearwater Florida, where later, in 1986 he succumbed to complications due to brain cancer after a long and daunting fight with the disease.

He was a quiet man, a good man. They do not make them like him anymore.

He is survived by his wife, his brother Herbert, his son Clifford and 4 grandchildren. His daughter Donna passed in 2017, and grandson Michael Bau passed in 2005. He now has four great grandchildren, Clarissa Carmona, Kyle Van Fleet, Kayleigh VanFleet, and Sophie Deemer.
