William was the son of Edward & Mary Goodwin. He married Mary Wallace. Their children were;
John, Elizabeth, Amos, Willis and George.

He served in General George Rogers Clark's expedition against the British & Indians in the NW in 1778. He was a member of Captain John Rogers company. He was alloted 108 acres of land for his service under Clark.

In the early 1800's he was a ppointed one of eight associate judges or justices of the Court of General Guarter Session for the Territory.
