Jehiel W. Ames was born in Rushford, Allegheny county, New York, April 2, 1838, and died in Fairmont, Nebraska, April 6, 1902. Aged 64 years, 4 days.

He was married to Lovilla Porter, May 4, 1859; of this union five children were born, four sons and one daughter.

In 1867 he removed with his family to LaSalle county, Illinois, where he resided till his removal to York county, Nebraska, which occurred in 1880. After four years residence in that county, he removed to Fairmont, Fillmore County.

In 1864 he was converted and joined the Free Methodist Church and remained in that communion till his removal to Illinois in 1867. Failing to find the church of his choice in his new home, he united with the Methodist Episcopal Church. On coming to Nebraska, the United Brethren people offered him and family a home and the offer was accepted, and he continued in the fellowship of that church until six years ago, when owing to the disbanding of the class, he was left without a church home, and he and his wife cast in their lot with the Presbyterian Church of this place. He died in that communion.

For twenty-six years J.W. Ames sought by his life and example to recommend religion to his fellowmen. He was for many years an official member in the church. His relations and intercourse with his fellowmen were pleasant and helpful. He sought to cultivate peace and harmony, choosing rather to suffer wrong than to do wrong.

He sought by all means in his power the best interests of his family, thus endearing himself to them not only by the ties of natural affection, but by a deep and loving interest in the welfare of those most dear to him.

Two of his children, Adda and Milton, have preceded him to the better land.

A wife and three sons survive to mourn his loss. May God's rich grace sustain them.

The funeral occurred from the Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, at 10 o'clock a.m., Rev. Lenfest of Dorchester officiating..

The Fillmore Chronicle (Fairmont) April 11th, 1902 page 1.

Born in Rushford, NY to Abel and Sarah Ames. He married Lovilla Julia Porter on May 4, 1859 (no information on Lovilla). They moved to Fairmont Nebraska in 1884.
