Roy was a native of Dade City, Florida and a resident of Sunniland at the time of his death. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Inez Padgett of Jacksonville; a brother, J.C. Eiland of Tampa; and two sisters, Mrs. Eva Mae Walker and Mrs. Edna Green, both of Lake Wales. Roy married Miss Anna "Annie" Brownell in Citrus County, Florida in 1936 and together they had five children: Gene, Inez, Roy Lee, Jr., Nellie, and Charles Edward. Roy and Annie were unable to properly care for their children and placed them in a children's home in Jacksonville, Florida.
