Thomas was the son of George Kerr and Inez Imogene Shaw. He married Kathryn R. Housinga on September 2, 1920 in Clinton, Clinton Co., IA.

By the time of 1930 census, Kathryn was widowed and living with her sister and brother-in-law in Garden Plain Twp., Whiteside Co., IL. No Kerr children are enumerated in the household, so it appears that she and Thomas had no children.

Thomas was killed (asphyxiated) in an accident when he was buried under several tons of ground feed at the Mack X Milling Company in Clinton.
