French Croix de Guerre with gilt star, under Order No. 15.339 "D", dated April 2, 1919, General Headquarters, French Armies of the East, with the following citation:
"During the combats of October 8, 1918, near St. Etienne, he displayed great courage. He unhesitatingly went forward over open ground and contributed to the capture of several machine gun nests as well as of numerous prisoners. Was killed at his post of combat." (Next of kin: Mrs. Mattie McDonald, sister, Garrison, Texas.)
