Born in South Kingstown, RI, he was the son of the late Wilfred R. and Mary (Albro) Easterbrooks.
He resided in Narragansett for the past 50 years and was a member of the Wakefield Baptist Church for 59 years. He graduated from South Kingstown High School in 1946.
Alan enlisted in the US Army and served in Italy with the Occupation Forces.

During his early professional years, he also served in the US Army Reserve, and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War and was a member of the 443rd Civil Affairs Company until he resigned his commission in 1965 with the rank of Major.
Alan was a Registered Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor in private practice since 1963-the year he assumed the civil engineering practice of his father, Wilfred Easterbrooks. The practice had been handed down from Wilfred's uncle, Leon L. Holland, who in turn had acquired the business from Thomas Hazard. He enjoyed a lifelong love of sailing, owning several small sailboats, and racing in many major ocean races including Newport-to-Bermuda, Annapolis-to-Newport, Marblehead-to-Halifax, and the SORC.
