James Hardy enlisted on May 14, 1862, at the Sabine post as a drummer. Josephus Somerville Irvine was the enlisting officer. He was left in the hospital at Nibletts Bluff, LA on May 21, 1863. He fought in the Red River Campaign. In Feb 1864, he was back with his camp, but still sick. On Nov 18, 1864, he left for 12 days of leave. In Feb 1865, he was on the rolls of CO E 21st Texas Infantry.
