Albert Hanna Dykes was the son of Martin Van Buren Dykes and Sarah "Sally" Ann Tate. He was named after his father's, Martin Van Buren Dykes, Commanding officer in the civil war, Captain Albert Hanner, who was killed at the battle of Shiloh.
