From the Harbor Pilot newspaper May 12, 1911...

Mrs. Anna Sophia Kjos, aged 38 years, 7 months and 3 days, wife of Richard Kjos, employed in the store of the South Bend Mills & Timber company, died at the Gruwell hospital about 2 o'clock Sunday morning, following an operation early Saturday evening. She is survived by her husband and four children. Mrs Kjos had been suffering with an attack of peritonitis and an operation was tried as the only means of saving her life. The funeral was held last Wednesday from the Robert S.Henderson chapel, Rev. GWH Smith pastor of the Presbyterian church officiating. The interment was at the IOOF cemetery in this city. Mrs. Kjos was just one of those little mothers who gave her thoughts and time to her home and family and who showered her hospitality and good will upon all who came within the radiance of her presence. Those who knew her intimately said she was a woman of pleasing personality and good heartedness and had won all who were privileged to be numbered among her friends and neighbors. Her death removes one of the best loved women in this city and robs a devoted husband and family of a loving wife and mother. Mrs. Kjos was born in Chritiania, Norway, October 4, 1872. She came to the US in 1881. She had been ill just one week when she passed away. Besides her husband the four children who survive her are: Leila 19, Robert 17, John 15, Marie 13. Mrs. Kjos mother is Mrs. CA Norby, who resides in Newcastle, WA with her only daughter Mrs. T.J. Richmond.
