He received his Associates degree from the Univ. of Florida in 1954; his Bachelors from the Univ. of Miami in 1958; and his Masters from Webster College in 1979. Lewis was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. While at the U of F as an Air Force ROTC instructor, he was advisor to the U of F Chapter 1966 - 1969. Lewis was commissioned into the USAF in 1958, serving 30 years. Lt Col Sherouse retired in 1988 while stationed at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. He was a proud patriot and Vietnam Veteran. Among his many awards, he earned the Bronze Star. Retirement years were happily spent in McIntosh FL.
Lewis was loved and admired by his family - his wife of 53 years, Janelle Kimsey Sherouse, two sons, John Mark and Robert Stephen (daughter in-law Deborah Ann, and grandchildren, John Robert and Marie Elizabeth). The son's reside respectively in Grafton IL and Waldorf MD.
Lewis was an accomplished woodworker and gardener. Before his illness, he served for many years as Chairman of the Trustees at McIntosh UMC and served the McIntosh Lions Club as both Secretary and President.
Funeral Services for Lewis will be held at the McIntosh United Methodist Church, 20632 8th St. at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 with time for fellowship following and a 2:30 p.m. burial at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. For those who wish, donations may be made to the McIntosh UMC in lieu of flowers. Lewis constantly demonstrated love for his Lord, family and country. He will be in our hearts forever. Arrangements are under the care of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 N. Main Street.
