Lura Ham, 100, of Lee's Summit Mo., passed away April 26, 2010. She was born April 29, 1909, to Levi Joseph and Letha Ann Casey of Parthenon, Ark. She graduated from Newton County Academy in Parthenon. Then attended Arkansas Tech College at Russellville, Ark., and obtained her teaching certificate. Lura taught school in one room school houses in Newton County, Ark., for several years. She taught at Shiloh, Low Gap, Buffalo, Deer and Boxley. The family moved to Chicago, Ill., in 1941 and then to the Kansas City area in 1943 where they remained until the present. Lura was the fourth child and the first daughter of eight children. She was married to John Atlas Ham in 1928 and had one child, James C. Ham. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1969 and three brothers, Arvil, Elmer and Ray, three sisters, Eula, Ava, Geneva and her parents. She is survived by her son, James and wife Mary; sister, Dorothy Carlton; three grandsons, Dan and wife Carrie, Craig and wife Anita, John and wife Wendy. She has seven great grandsons, Jackson, Jordan, Jake, Dylan, Zane, Zander, and Zaiden. Lura has been a member of New Haven Baptist Church since 1960. Her and her husband enjoyed bowling and bowled in church leagues for years. She enjoyed travel and playing the piano. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 28, at the Langsford Funeral Home.
