Essie Guy Barker, 86, of 507 Hawkins Street, Huntsville, died Aug. 25, 1988, at his home. He was born April 17, 1902, at Pettigrew, Ark., the son of Sherwood and Molly Moon Barker. He was a retired public teacher with more than 30 years of service and had served as Madison County Treasurer from 1946 to 1950. He attended the Harmony Baptist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Geneva Miller Barker of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Dixie Holland of Springdale and Mrs. Norma Jean Cline of Huntsville; one sister. Mrs. Viola Thornton of Westville, Okla.; one grandson, Tommy Holland of Springdale; two granddaughters, Miss Marcia Holland of Little Rock and Miss Patti Cline of Huntsville; and one great-granddaughter, Miss Emily Holland of Springdale.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, in the Chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with the Rev. John Napier officiating. Interment was in the Huntsville Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Virgil Briesacher, Tommy Holland, Wayne O'Guinn, Darby Boland, Bob Boland, and Tom Rogers.
