One person was killed almost instantly and another injured in an automobile crash on Route 997 about two miles south of Fayetteville, Pa., at 11:25 p.m. Saturday, according to Pa. State Police.
Ralph W. Lydic, Jr., 58, of Waynesboro Route 2 died following the crash when his car collided with another car driven by Miss Catherine Young, Chambersburg Route 1.
State Police gave these facts: Lydic was traveling north on Route 997 in a Ford car and Miss Young was coming south on the same highway. According to police Lydic's car hit the Young car broadside, bounced off and hit an embankment, then bounced back onto the highway crossing over to the other side and hitting another embankment. It then bounced back onto the highway where it came to a halt 228 feet further down the road. Police said both Lydic's and Miss Young's car, the latter a 1960 Chevrolet, were completely demolished. Lydic was already dead upon arrival of police and an ambulance at the scene. Lydic sustained a broken neck, broken leg and other injuries. Miss Young received lacerations to the right eye and possible chest injuries. It was reported at the Chambersburg Hospital last evening, where she was removed, that her condition was fair.
Born June 28, 1942, the deceased was the son of Mrs. Evelyn (Izer) Lydic, Waynesboro Rt. 2, and the late Ralph W. Lydic, Sr. He was employed at the Colonial Hardwood Flooring Co., Waynesboro, as a cabinet maker. He was a member of the Penna. National Guard, Troop G, stationed in Waynesboro. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Linda and Connie Lydic, both at home; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Izer, Rouzerville; maternal grandfather, Steele Lydic, Greencastle Rt. 3.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. from the Minnich Funeral Home, Greencastle, with the Rev. Mortan Henry in charge. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 7 until 9.
