Thomas' father, Joseph Long (Longe); son of Joseph Longe, gentleman, was of Broad Magna, Dorset (Dorchester) England. Possibly, Joseph may have been one of the original settlers who arived on the "Mary and John" of Winthrop's fleet in June 1630.
Joseph returned to England to settle his father's estate and was last heard of prior to 22 May 1651, on which date the court in Massachusetts Bay Colony, believing Joseph dead, gave his wife Mary permission to remarry.
