George Schell, aged 52, of Williamstown, met instant death at Big Lick Colliery, Williamstown, Monday afternoon at two o'clock, while leaving the mines with intentions of it being his last day's work. Schell had just completed a gas service station in the west end of the borough and intended giving his full time to the operation of the station. The accident occurred while he and his buddy, John Reinoehl, also of Williamstown, were walking out of the workings. A broken rail caused one of a trip of cars to jump the track and crushed Schell against the side wall. Fortunately Mr. Reinoehl was walking about 18 feet in rear of Schell or he too may have suffered a similar death. The two men worked together in the mines for 37 years at different collieries.

Mr. Schell was born at Donaldson and was a son of the late Samuel and Hannah Schell of Williamstown, where he resided for the past 18 years. January 16, 1895 he married at Tower City, and is survived by his wife, two sons, Norman and Bruce, and two daughters, Sadie, (Mrs. Paul Shoop), of Pittsburgh, and Miss Beatrice at home. Besides these are two brothers, Lincoln and Harvey of Pottsville, and two sisters, Mrs. Etta Drum of Darby, and Mrs. Charles Enders of Philadelphia.

The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at his home, the Rev. Mr. Wolf of the Lutheran church officiating, after which burial was made in the Fairview cemetery.
