They arrived on September 18, 1887 in Philadelphia, PA on the ship "British King". He was 8 years old. He lived in Nanty Glo, PA where the family worked the coal mines.
He married Amy Skidmore Austin on November 13, 1901 in Frugality, PA. They had 9 children - Mary, Hugh, Esther and Harriet (twins). (Esther died on February 6, 1905 - the day she was born. Harriet died in November 1905.)The twins were followed by Albert, Lewis, Amy, Aaron and Clifford.
