SAN ANTONIO - Mrs. Leona M. Merritt, age 83, of Ingram, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, in University Hospital in San Antonio. Born Oct. 19, 1914, in Galveston, Texas, to the late Herbert and Artie Hall Hoxie, she had been a lifelong resident of the Hill Country. She was employed as a bookkeeper for Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital for 25 years and was active in the Peterson Hospital Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, and a volunteer at the Hill Country Youth Ranch. On Nov. 30, 1939, in Hunt, Texas, she wed Ross R. Merritt, who preceded her in death on June 7, 1996.

Among her survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Elaine Merritt of Rockdale, Texas; three grandsons, Clint Merritt and wife, Amy, of College Station, Texas, Brad Merritt of College Station, Matt Merritt of Rockdale; and a great-granddaughter, Darby, of College Station.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Hunt Japonica Cemetery with the Rev. Worth Thompson officiating. Visitation will be at Kerrville Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 5, 1998. Those who desire to make memorial contributions may do so to the Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary or to Notre Dame Catholic Church. Services are under the direction of Kerrville Funeral Home.
