Helen (Karst) Ellis -- Obituary
Helen (Karst) Ellis, 75, of Cascade, who had been active in many community organizations, died Friday in a local hospital.
Born at Walsenburg, Colorado, she attended grade school in Apache Creek, Colorado, and high school in Walsenburg, Colorado. She studied at Colorado State University and earned an M.A. degree in education from Colorado Women's College.
For 12 years she taught high school science in Walsenburg, Colorado, then was a science teacher at Great Falls High School for 12 years.
Mrs. Ellis was active in Girl Scouts for many years, was past regent of the Black Eagle Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, devoted much time to the Republican Party, and was past president of the Methodist women's organization and of the Cascade County Cow Belles. She had also belonged to the Nile Club, Order of the Eastern Star, Farm Bureau, and to several bridge clubs, and was an avid flower gardener.
On March 14, 1946, she and William B. Ellis were married in Pueblo, Colorado. He survives with a son, R.P. Ellis of Cascade; one granddaughter; and two brothers, Kenneth Karst of Albuquerque, N.M. and Kermit G. Karst of Rapid City, S.D.
A memorial service for Mrs. Ellis will be scheduled. Cremation has taken place with Croxford and Sons Mortuary handling arrangements.
