Obituary of John H. Balsbaugh 1848 - 1921

The following obit was found in the Fisher Family Bible. It appears to have belonged to Henry Fisher who was the son of George and Barbara Moss Fisher. This obit was glued to the inside of the Bible. [Terri Saylor]

John H. Balsbaugh

John H. Balsbaugh, a resident of Miami county for about fifty-three years, passed away suddenly at the home of his son, Charles Balsbaugh, in Jefferson township, at 10 o'clock Wednesday night. The cause of death was dilation of the heart, and was very sudden. Mr. Balsbaugh had been making his home with another son, Walter Balsbaugh, in Union township, and at the time of death was paying his son Charles a visit. The deceased was a minister in the German Baptist denomination; to which service he added the work of farming, and had been an honored resident of Miami county for more than half a century.

He was born at Harrisburg, Penn., May 3, 1848, the son of Mrs. and Mrs. Daniel Balsbaugh, and was past seventy-three years of age when death called. The wife of this good man died about twenty-two years ago. To their union were born the following surviving children: Mrs. Anna Eikenberry of Mexico and Mrs. Della Eikenberry of Denver; Albert Balsbaugh of Flint, Mich,; Walter Balsbaugh of Union township; George Balsbaugh of North Manchester; Mrs. Elnora Grisso of North Liberty, Ind.; Mrs. Rosetta Taggart, Mrs. Nellie Musselman and Charles Balsbaugh, at whose home he died, all of Jefferson township, and Mrs. Mary Miller of Lima, Ohio. A brother, William Balsbaugh, resides in Denver.

The funeral services will be conducted in the Church of the Brethren at Mexico at 2 o'clock this (Saturday) afternoon, in charge of Rev. William Shoup of West Alexandria, Ohio, and burial will take place in Greenlawn cemetery.
