Adam was the son of Christian HOFFART and Christian's second wife, Anna Catharine. He was baptized at St. Peter's Rocky Hill Lutheran Church in Woodsboro, Frederick County, Maryland.

In 1820, he was 51 years old, living in Washington Twp., Montgomery County, Ohio:
1 man over the age of 45
1 woman between the ages of 26 & 44
1 female from 16-25
1 male from 10-15
2 females 10-15
2 males under 10
2 females under 10
Most likely, Adam, his wife, and eight children.

In 1830, he was 61 years old, living in Beaver Creek Township, Greene County, Ohio:
1 man aged 60-69
1 female aged 20-29
2 males aged 15-19
1 male aged 10-14
2 females aged 10-14
2 females aged 5-9
2 females under age 5
The numbers suggest that his wife had died by 1830, and it appears that Adam had three sons.

By 1850, Adam was widowed and living in Darke County, Ohio, with his only known son, Daniel (b. abt 1812 in Ohio). Adam was 81 then. Sometime before he died, the family moved on to Delaware County, Ohio.

Adam's son Daniel's gravesite has not been found; however, the gravesite for Daniel's wife Jane has been located.
