He was born June 2, 1907 in the town of Birnamwood, the son of the late Christ and Sophie (Wichman) Leiskau.
On April 12, 1947 George was united in marriage to Lettie VerHagen in the town of Almon, Shawano County. She preceded him in death on December 3, 1997.
Survivors include three step-children, Dorothy (Robert) Richling, Antigo, Thomas Weir, Elcho and Ida Shaffer, Kenosha; eight children, Lila Boyd, Kenosha, Sophie (Richard) Henke, Sr., Antigo, Beverly (Larry) Faust, Aniwa, Ruth (Hans) Larson, Jr., Mattoon, Bonnie Leiskau, Montello, Connie (Virgil) Adkins, Antigo, Denise (Dale) Mekash, Green Bay and Henry (Donna) Leiskau, Bryant; 32 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, George was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce, a son, George, a granddaughter, a grandson, two brothers, Henry and Leo and a sister, Lorraine Szopa.
Funeral services were held August 18, 2000 at the Church of the Nazarene, Mattoon. The Rev. Bob Mitchell officiated. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, town of Hutchins.
