Mr. Aker was a member of the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church and was a lifelong resident of the Bear Creek Community in Atkins. He was retired from Brunswick Corporation with 35 years of service.
During his illness, Mr. Aker made his home with his son in Saltville where Janice, his daughter-in-law, provided him with special care.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cornelia Hess Aker.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Waymon and Janice Aker of Saltville, Avery and Rita Aker of Atkins, and Glenn and Patricia Aker of Goose Creek, S.C.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Frank Bauman, the Rev. Roger Frost and the Rev. Wade Kestner officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery.
Seaver-Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
