Mrs. Ballard was born October 2, 1904 in Stigler, Indian Territory to Clarence Roy and Lynn (Wortham) McKinley, and she passed from this life on Wednesday, February 14, 2001, in Webster, Texas.
She spent her formative years in Stigler and Kinita. Louise received her bachelor's degree and her master's degree in education from Northeastern State College in Tahlequah.
She taught school for 29 years in area schools. She was the head of the home economics department at Sequoyah Vocational School in Tahlequah for 18 years.
Louise was married to William B. Covey (Seq. teacher 1937-1960). He passed away in 1962.
She was later married to Dr. Ray H. Ballard. They moved to Washington, where Dr. Ballard died in 1970. Louise returned to Tahlequah in 1988.
Since 1927, she she had been a member of the Tahlequah First Christian Church, where she also taught Sunday school. She was a 50-year member of the Delta Zeta sorority. PEO Chapter F. D., the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, OEA, NEA, and had attended the First United Methodist Church in Tahlequah.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Billy Covey, in 1973.
Louise is survived by her son, Bryan "Mac" Covey of Locust Grove; two daughters: Joan Ballew of Elk City and Marsha Rowley of Houston, Texas; three stepchildren: Dr. Jack Ballard and Bob Ballard both of Port Ludlow, Washington and Peggy Stanley of Mesa, Arizona; nine grandchildren: Alex Ballew, Joe Barry Ballew, Marsha Ballew, Robin Sue Rowley, Michelle Rowley, Helen Staten, LeAnne Simmons, Christina Corley and Joe Covey; 16 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives, loved ones and friends.
