Word has been received of the death of Joseph E. Grissom, 86, of Mattoon who died Monday, Oct. 26, 1987, at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home, Mattoon.
The funeral was Oct. 28 at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, Mattoon, with burial in Mullen Cemetery, east of Montrose.
Mr. Grissom was born June 11, 1901, in Spring Point Township, Cumberland County, the son of William Wesley and Dollie Angelina (Decker) Grissom. He married E. Josephine Carter in 1922 in Terre Haute, Ind.
He was a retired farmer and was affiliated with the Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife; sons, Dean C. of Montrose, Dale E. and Curtis J., both of Mattoon, Richard L. of Effingham; daughters, Mrs. Lonnie (Hazel) Elliott of Mattoon, Mrs. Warren (Ruth) Croy of Toledo, Mrs. Don (Ellen) Clark of Jewett; brother, Alpha A. of Mattoon; sister, Ethel Barber of Mesa, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; five great- stepgrandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one son, one grandson, three brothers and four sisters.
