Nina started her education at the Carnforth school, later attending a rural school and the Brooklyn School, graduating from high school in 1924. She attended Drake University in Des Moines graduating with a music major.
Following her graduation from Drake she taught school for one year at Bondurant. On May 24, 1929, Nina was married to Edward Albert Bartachek in Des Moines. They farmed for twenty five years near Brooklyn and moved into Brooklyn in 1954. Her husband, Ed, died August 3, 1985, and Nina lived in her home until she went to live for six months with her daughter and son-in -law, Sylvia and Jim Glass. Since then Nina has been a resident of the Brookhaven Nursing Home.
Nina was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn and the Pythian Sisters Lodge and was a pianist for the Lodge to state level.
Nina served as church organist for many years. She taught music lessons for many years and was accompanist for a ladies quartet. She served as accompanist for Poweshiek Co. Womens Chorus. Nina was an accompanist for many school students in music contests. Nina was an organist for many weddings and funerals in the Brooklyn area.
Nina was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Harold Manatt, and one great grandchild.
Surviving are one daughter, Sylvia Glass, and her husband, James; five grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
