He was born Nov. 10, 1932, in Elkhart, Ind., to Eldon Wayne and Anna Mae (Lusher) Madlem. On July 26, 1953, in Elkhart he married Loraine Alice Chaney. She died May 28, 2002.
He is survived by one son, Rickie L. Madlem of North Fort Myers; two daughters, Vickie (Lennie) Bybee of Niles and Penny L. (Rick) Thomas of Buchanan, Mich.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Danny (Mel) Madlem of Fountain, Colo.; and one sister, Phyllis (Richard) Brown of Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Mazurkiewicz.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 W. Main St., Edwardsburg, and one hour prior to the noon Saturday funeral service at Edwardsburg United Pentecostal Church, 27341 U.S. 12 W. The Rev. Robert Geans, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Edwardsburg Cemetery.
Mr. Madlem was an insulator for Local 75, South Bend, for more than 40 years, and was involved in the heating aspect of the construction business. He enjoyed being with his family and friends, was an avid Notre Dame fan and also enjoyed camping, making candles, cutting wood, riding his motorcycle and being with his dog.
Mr. Madlem was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. He moved to Florida in 1992, coming from the Niles area.
