On October 1, 1846, he married Elizabeth Wood, of Quincy. They had one child, Charles Richardson.
Elizabeth died December 23, 1872.
At his death he was survived by six children, thirty-three grandchildren and fifty-two great grandchildren.
He was known as "Uncle Jimmy" to all. He was also known for his frequent trips from Beverly township to Quincy and to New York city to visit friends.
