Melvin T. Stevenson, 85, of Jena, passed from this life on Sunday, May 19, 2013, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. He was born November 9, 1927 in Deville to the union of his parents, Charles W. and Isabella Deville Stevenson. Mr. Stevenson was a machinist for Boeing Aircraft and a veteran of the United States Navy. Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 21, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Ricky Gresham and Jimmy Keene officiating. Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery of Jena under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mavys Mitchell Stevenson; brothers, Martin Stevenson, Walter Stevenson, Harvey Stevenson, and Ollie Stevenson; and sisters, Martha Crooks, Barbara Huffman and Dora Boone. Survivors include his son, Scott Stevenson of Jena; daughter, Yvonne Stevenson of Shorewood, WI; grandson, Donnie Stevenson, and great grandchildren, Dillon Stevenson, Briana Spears and Ireland Wiley. Pallbearers were Donnie Stevenson, Dillon Stevenson, Doug Campbell, Kirby Jones, H. O. Berry, and Terry Edwards. Honorary pallbearers were LaVelle Stevenson and Ronnie Stevenson.
