The daughter of George Franklin Rose and Katherine "Kate" Ganshiert, Minnie's parents were both natives of Baden, Germany. Her father had fought with a Missouri unit in the Civil War and was wounded badly enough in 1863 to be discharged from the service.

Minnie was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, and her father worked there as a drayman. A drayman was the driver of a dray, a low, flat-bed wagon without sides, pulled generally by horses or mules that was used for transporting a variety of goods.

Minnie's mother died in the 1870's. [Note: Her replacement stone says 1875, but her youngest son was born in 1877.] George Rose then married a woman named Matilda.

Minnie started her medical career as a nurse. She continued her training in St. Louis, Missouri, and went on to become a physician at a time when there were far fewer than 100 female medical doctors in the entire city. She later owned a small, private hospital.

In 1910, Minnie adopted a child at birth who was born to an unwed patient of hers. The daughter, Ida, died young at the age of 21 in 1931, following a medical emergency.

Minnie lived until 1957. At the time of her death due to a stroke, she was 86 years, 9 months and 8 days old. She was buried on 14 Mar 1957. Minnie never married.

She was survived by a former and employee and special friend, Lena Borcherding.
