Garnet W. Deardorff, 56, of 7133 Sycamore Ave., Takoma, Md., died Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. of a heart attack while at work at the Bureau of Standards, Washington, D.C. where he was employed as a foreman of the machine shops. He had been in failing health for the past year as a result of a heart condition.

Born at New Franklin on April 3, 1898, Mr. Deardorff was a son of the late Jacob W. and Charlotte Wildeson Deardorff. His early life was lived in New Franklin and Altenwald and when a young man, he moved to Waynesboro where he learned the machinist trade at the Frick Company. In 1940 he moved to Washington and for eight years was employed in the Navy Yard there. He was a member of the Holy Comforter Lutheran Church and several fraternal organizations.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Rella Benedict Deardorff; a son and two daughters. Eugene Deardorff and Mrs. Geraldine Shuskey, both of Washington, and Mrs Hilda Baker, at home; four grandchildren; a brother, Ira L. Deardorff, Wormleysburg, Md, and three sisters, Mrs. J. H. Spangler, Chambersburg R. R. 5; Mrs. M. E. Branthaver, Greencastle, and Mrs. Henry W. Good, Waynesboro.

Funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Grove funeral home, Waynesboro, with the Rev. H. L. Rhodes and the Rev. Dr. B. C. Ritz officiating; burial in the Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
