They lived near Merriman NE. until his death which was the result of railway accident that occurred while on his way to Omaha with a shipment of stock. His mother Mrs. Elia McCauley Harris preceded his death in August 2, 1913. Mr. Harris served 1894-1928 Company 45, 11th Batallion World War I and stationed at Fort Lee, Va. Vet. Corps. Tom Harris was a great lover of outdoor life on the farm where he was very successful. His family members also include: Father, James Harris of Whitney and step mother Mrs.Harris, brother Arthur J. of Deadwood, SD, and four sisters Olive Ball of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Miss Hazel, Ruth and Eleanor Harris.
