Everett Earl Nichols was born to William Earl Nichols and Esther Schroeder Nichols on September 1, 1907, at Greenwood, and passed away December 27, 1989, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, at the age of 82 years, 3 months and 27 days. He was one of three children in the family.

As a young child, Everett moved with his family from Greenwood to a farm near Alma.

When Everett was in the fourth grade, they moved to the Fairmont area where he lived for the rest of his life.

He graduated from Fairmont High School with the Class of 1926.

For a brief period of time he worked at road construction before farming.

Everett was married to Florence M. Robbins of Fairmont, on September 10, 1931, and to them two children were born, Gene and Marvin.

They lived and farmed southwest of Fairmont until they retired and moved into Fairmont in August of 1970.

Everett was always willing to share his time, talents and possessions with others.

He served many years on the Geneva Township Board.

He was a member of the Oddfellows Hesparian Lodge 42.

He served many positions on his church board and many years as a Co-op board member.

Everett was a member of the Fairmont Community Church for over 50 years.

Some of his special interests included being an avid fisherman, playing cards with friends and watching sporting events.

Everett was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Francis Nichols of Atlantic, Ia.; and son, Marvin of Geneva.

He is survived by his wife, Florence Nichols, of Fairmont; son Gene Nichols and wife, Marilyn, of Fairmont; daughter-in-law, Marilyn D. Nichols of Geneva; a sister, Faye Scheer and husband , Gilbert, of Craig; sister-in-law, Virginia Barringer of Atlantic, Ia.; five grandchildren, Beth Nichols of Lakewood, Co.; Scott and Todd Nichols of Geneva; and Mark and Mindy Nichols of Fairmont.

Funeral services were conducted from the Fairmont Community Church in Fairmont on Saturday December 30, with the Rev. Cal Leeds officiating.

Nancy Jo Galusha served as the organist. Marvin and Delores Swartz sang "He was There All the Time" and "When I Met the Master."

Pallbearers were Jerry Galusha, Kenneth Hofferber, Billy R. Jacobsen, Francis Jacobsen, Howard Lefler and Duaine Roper.

Interment was in the Fairmont Cemetery.
