Austin Abshier was the youngest of seven children born to Benjamin Abshier Sr. and his wife Hannah Weed. Austin, along with other members of the family moved to Liberty County in the early 1840s. He was married on Dec. 14, 1854 in Galveston County, TX to Mrs. Susan (Clark) Andress. They were the parents of eight children.
