Gerald Cyril Dolan was born July 27, 1940, in Independence, Iowa to Cyril J. "Mike" and Geraldine (Sheeley) Dolan.
He was raised in the area, graduating from the Winthrop High School in 1958. After four years in the U.S. Air Force and 20 years in manufacturing and sales, he decided to study for the priesthood. He graduated from Loras College in 1986 and then studied at the Josephinum Seminary.
He was ordained by Archbishop Kucera in 1990. His first assignment was at St. Joseph's parish in Bellevue.
In July of 1993, he was granted a leave of absence for health reasons. Since 2001, he has been an assistant to the Director of the Archdiocesan Archives and an assistant to the Archbishop. Father Gerald was also a third degree member of the Bellevue Knights of Columbus Council #1354.
Father Gerald C. Dolan died after a brief illness, Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. He was sixty-six years of age.
Survivors include his siblings, Mary Jane (Robert) Gudenkauf of Hopkinton, CeAnn Brickley of Cascade, James (Linda) Dolan of Masonville, Patrick (Becky) Dolan of Manchester, and Rose Marie (Dr. Robert) Meisch of Dyersville; many nieces and nephews and extended family. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, one brother-in-law, Leo Brickley; one niece, Margaret Sara Dolan; and one great-nephew, Dennis Robert Gudenkauf.
