An orphan of Irish immigrants, Margaret grew up with her aunt, Margaret McGann Hotaling in Manhattan. She studied at the Grace Institute before becoming a secretary at Ingersoll Rand Corporation. She worked for P. Thure Brorstrom. After her marriage in 1932, Margaret was a stay-at-home mom who enjoyed sewing, boating, and golf. In the early 1960s, she started a convenience store in Ridge Manor, Florida, and was featured in a newspaper article highlighting her new "all electric" home!
Margaret Byrne 85; private services slated for Hyannis resident
HYANNIS -- Margaret M. (Ferguson) Byrne, 85, a resident of Hyannis since 1967, died Monday [31 December 1990] at Cape Cod Hospital after a long illness. She was the wife of Terence J. Byrne, who died in 1989. Mrs. Byrne was born in New York City, and lived there most of her life. She resided for seven years in [Ridge Manor] Florida before moving to Hyannis. Surviving are a son, Donald Byrne of Chatham; and four grandchildren. Private graveside services will be held in Mosswood Cemetery, Cotuit.
