Son of Paul Mahaulu & Kalakona. Children are William, Edward, Paul, Emmaline & Clara. Employed as a clerk in the offices of the law firm of Lorrin Thurston and F. M. Hatch; appointed a clerk in the department of the interior in 1885, during the reign of King Kalakaua; commisioned a second lieutenant in the Queen's Own, the bodyguard of Queen Kapiolani; commissioned a captain of Company A of the same organization. Judge Mahaulu was in the employ of the government for a number of years, leaving his position as clerk in 1892 to become a captain of police. A few years later he went to Waialua his home district as deputy tax assessor and collector, and on July 18, 1900, was appointed district magistrate of Waialua. After his retirement from the Waialua bench he was appointed by Circuit Judge Whitney as boys probation officer. For many years he served as acting pastor of the Waialua church.
