Obituary
Died--At her residence 3 miles southwest of Longton, Friday, February 23, 1900, of cancer, Mrs. H. E. Morris aged 38 years.
Miss Harriet E. Quillin was born in Green county, Indiana,on the 23d day of February 1862, living in that state until 1870 in which year her parents moved to Barry county, Missouri. They made their home there until the fall of 1875 when they moved to Cherokee county, Kansas.
Here she met and became acquainted with A. H. Morris and on December 26, 1878, they were united in marriage. Seven children, four boys and three girls, were born to this union, one boy dying in infancy one year ago August.
In the fall of 1885, Mr Morris located in Elk county, renting the L. Parkinson farm, where the deceased had made her home until her death. Mrs. Morris had been a sufferer from cancer for several years and the dread disease baffled the skill of the best physicians, death finally relieving her from pain.
When still a young girl she made a profession of religion uniting with the Christian church. There being no church of her denomination in this city and desiring identify herself with christian friends she united with the Longton M. E. church. She was a faithful and devout christian and served her Master in all her actions, bearing her afflictions with christian fortitude putting her trust on Him who soothes every ill, her only desire to live being her deep love for husband and children, but her death was peaceful knowing as she died that "the Lord doeth all things well." She was a helpful and loving wife, a doting mother and in her death a sorrowing family loses that which nothing of earth can ere replace. Besides her husband and children, a mother, two sisters, one brother and a large circle of friends mourn her departure.
The deceased was a member in good standing of Longton Lodge No 166. Degree of Honor, and the funeral services were conducted under the auspices of that order at the M. E. church Sunday morning, February 25, 1900, Rev B. F. Summers preaching the sermon, the burial taking place in the Longton cemetery.
