Laura E. Schrieber, 92, of Elgin, passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
    She was born July 22, 1908 in Woodstock, the daughter of George and Amanda (nee Thies) Kanies.
    Laura started her working career in 1925 with the Elgin Watch Case Company where she remained employed for 33 yrs., working as a bookkeeper in Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Payroll departments. She was then employed by Elgin Lumber Company as a bookkeeper for 12 years. She was a member for over 50 years of the Women of the Moose, Elgin Moose Lodge #799.
    Survivors include her nephews and nieces, Robert (Judy) Schroeder of Elgin, Willard Schroeder of Chesapeake, Va., Roger (Judith) Kanies and Steve (Kate) Kanies, all of Nashville, Tenn., TomKanies of Elgin, Jerry Kanies of Miller Beach, Ind., Mary Ellen (Bill) Kanies-Beckman of Elgin, Patricia (Greg) Peyer of Grainger, Ind., Margy (Bruce) Wascher of Elgin, Doug (Willie) Kanies of Burlington, Trina Kanies of California; her sisters-in-law, Ellen Marquis, Vackle Hood, Mary K. Kanies, all of Elgin and Mary Kells of Denver, Colo.; her dear friend and caregiver, Stasia Michalska of Elgin; and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank "Lefty" Schrieber, whom she married on Sept. 18, 1929 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Elgin and preceded her on Nov. 5, 1987; two brothers, Jim and Art Kanies; her sister, Alma Schroeder; and her grandniece and namesake, Laura Schroeder.
    Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000 at Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Peter Borzeke officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin.
    Visitation will be from 11 a.m., Tuesday until the time of services in the funeral home.
    The family has requested memorial tributes be made in Laura's name toMooseheart Endowment Fund, Mooseheart, IL. 60539-1180.
