He was a teacher and administrator for 54 years, retiring from Eminence High School in 1980 after 23 years. He also taught in Vermillion, Fillmore, Belle Union, Center Grove, and Putnamville schools. He was a member of F&AM No131 at Stilesville, where he was past master and secretary for 30 years. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Indianapolis Valley; the York Rite, Indianapolis; Commandry, Greencastle; Order of the Eastern Star No.554, Stilesville; and the Indiana Retired Teachers Associaion.
Along with his wife, he is survived by one son, Donald R. Buis, Route 3 Cloverdale; 12 grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 6 step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Virginia M. Demaree; two sons, Robert and Lloyd Paul Buis; four sisters Lola Ecker, Lula Prichard; Ruth C. Fox and Floy McCoullough; and one grandson Russell Dean Buis.
