FREDERICK WILLIAMS THE ARCADIAN 1973;

Frederick James Williams, 82, of 2416 Gulf Drive, Bradenton Beach, Florida died January 7, 1973 at Manatee Memorial Hospital, Bradenton Florida. Mr. Williams was a native of Milan County, Texas and moved to Manatee County in 1948. He was a retired aviator and court reporter. A pioneer in aviation in Lake Charles, La, he was one of the first class of Army Air Corps Aviators, was selected to come to Carlstrom Field in Arcadia to be one of the first Instructors. After World War I, he went on to serve as Chief Instructor for Curtis-Wright Airport in Valley Stream, New York and Roosevelt Airport. He managed Peter O. Knight Airport in Tampa and helped established the old Sarasota Airport in Tampa, During World War II, he had one of the largest training programs for pilots in the country. Prior to World War I, he was a circuit court reporter in Tom Green County, Texas. Periodically after World War I, he retired to this profession, serving as Chief Court Reporter for years in Hillsborough and Sarasota Counties. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bradenton, Kirby Stewart Post No. 24 American Legion and a former Shriner.

He is survived by his wife, Zulu M. Williams; daughters, Mrs. Sue Bevis Arcadia and Mrs. Mary Yelvington, Bradenton; sisters, Mrs. Amanda McMahon, Bradenton, and Mrs. Laura Yeager, Brady Texas; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends were invited to call at Griffith-Cline Bradenton Chapel, Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M.

Funeral Services were held at the Chapel Wednesday at 1:0 P.M., with the Rev. A. R. Fagan, of the First Baptist Church, Bradenton, officiating.

Pallbearers were the grandson of the deceased, Robert H. Bevis, William F. Bevis, John V. Yelvington, Jr., and Richard Yelvington. Mr. Ed Price’s “Pals Clas” of the First Baptist Sunday School served as Honorary Pallbearers.

Graveside services were conducted by Reverend Gerald Taylor, and the American Legion Post of Arcadia, at 3:30 P.M. Wednesday at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Arcadia.

Griffith-Cline Bradenton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
