HERE LIES Ye BODY OF WILLIAM
BRAKENBURY AGED 66 YEARS
DIED IN Ye 6TH MONTH 1668.
--------------------------------William Brackenbury was one of the early settlers of Charlestown. He was admitted to the church in that town, Dec. 20, 1632. Anne Brackenbury, supposed to be his wife, was admitted Jan. 5, 1632-3. He was admitted freeman of the colony, March 4, 1632-3. He died in Malden, August, 1668. Alice Brackenbnury, his wife, died Dec. 28, 1670, and was buried by his side in the Old Cemetery in, Malden, Mass.Born about 1602 based on age at death. Yeoman who came to Massachusetts Bay in 1630. First settled in Charlestown; later moved to Malden. Died in Malden MA, August 1668, aged 66.
Married (1) by 1632 Anne ____, who was admitted to Charlestown church 5 January 1632/3; she died by 1645.
(2) By 1645 Alice _____; she died 28 December 1670, aged 70, buried at Malden.
In his will William Brackenbury made a bequest of ten shillings to "my cousin Richard Brakenbury." This could be RICHARD BRACKENBURY, the immigrant to Salem, but it could also be the grandson of the latter, "Richard, son of John & Emm Brackenburie, b. in Charlstowne, July 27, 1665." This grandson was apparently dead by 20 March 1683/4 when he was not mentioned in a codicil to his grandfather's will which named two of his siblings, but he could well have been still alive, and living in Charlestown, in 1668. The relationship between RICHARD BRACKENBURY and WILLIAM BRACKENBURY remains unclear, but it was quite close.
