Mrs. C. L. Zimmerman, Beautician, Dies Christmas Eve
Native of Atlanta, Ga.,
Lived Here Several Years
Tuesday, December 24th, as the day was dying in the west and the shades of night were falling, Mrs. Louie Austin Zimmerman, wife of Mr. Charles Loos Zimmerman and only daughter of Mrs. Ellen George Austin, passed away. Death's dark Angel, no respecter of persons, time and places, claimed this lovable woman, bringing sorrow and sadness into the household and to her friends and admirers just at the time men, women and children in all Christendom were filled with joy and making preparations to celebrate the birthday of the Prince of Peace.
In declining health for several years, seriously ill for several weeks and falling into a coma on December 18th the end had been expected.
She was a member of the Westminster Baptist Church.
Mrs. Zimmerman was born in Atlanta, Ga., being daughter of the late L. B. Austin and Mrs. Ellen George Austin. She was forty-nine years old on the second day of last February. Was married in the summer of 1912. She, her husband and Mrs. Austin lived for the past several years in the stately home built by the late Albert Zimmerman, father of C. L., in the 1870s, which is located on West Windsor street and at the end of Zimmerman avenue, which is shaded by native oaks, left when the land was cleared where most of the business houses now stand.
Having attended the best institutions of learning in her youth the deceased had the advantages of a good education and being gifted and accomplished she possessed an ambition and desire to put her talents into use and her works were greatly admired and praised by all who knew her. She attended institutions of learning in Atlanta, New York City and G[reenville]. W[omen's]. C[ollege]. in Greenville. She was an accomplished musician having studied at the Atlanta Conservatory of Music and G[reenville]. W[omen's]. C[ollege]. "Zim's" Beauty shops in Seneca, Walhalla, Clemson College, Liberty and Easley have been popular with the ladies a number of years and were liberally patronized. It is said of Mrs. Zimmerman she was one of the best operators and beauticians that ever stood behind the chair.
Besides husband and mother, she leaves three sons and one daughter, C. L. Zimmerman, Jr. and Richard Zimmerman, of Atlanta, Ga., Alan Zimmerman and Miss Eleanor Zimmerman at home. To all these bereaved ones the condolence of a wide circle of friends is extended.
The late Dr. W. F. Austin of Seneca, was an uncle of the deceased. Her maternal grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. John George, were prominent citizens of Atlanta, Ga. The Austin family is connected with the late Charles A. David, pioneer citizen of Greenville, whose name was widespread in his day by reason of his historic contributions and his interesting cartoons which appeared in magazines, daily and weekly newspapers.
Services for Mrs. Zimmerman were impressively conducted in the home Thursday afternoon at two o'clock by Rev. C. K. Douglas, pastor of the Seneca Presbyterian church. Dr. D. D. Lewis, her pastor and Dr. W. C. Frierson, pastor of the Presbyterian church here, were out of town.
Following the funeral rites her body was interred in the family plot, where the bodies of an only brother, Alan Austin, and her father, L. B. Austin, are buried in Eastview cemetery. A large contribution of lovely flowers testifying to the esteem in which the deceased was held, were placed on the grave.
Pallbearers were S. J. Hayes, H. G. Cowan, R. B. Hones, W. F. Crenshaw, David Crenshaw, and Dr. S. C. Moon.
