Mrs. Anton Psencik Sr. passed away at the Schultz Hospital in Schulenburg Wednesday morning, Feb. 20. She had been a patient there for the past two months.
Funeral services were held Friday morning, Feb. 22, at the home of her son, Anton Psencik, in Cistern. Rev. Theodore T. Janysek officiated. He sang the Requiem High Mass at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Father Janysek delivered the English sermon. Rev. E.J. Bily of Flatonia spoke in Czech.
The K.J.Z.T. Lodge, of which Mrs. Psencik had been a faithful member for 40 years, attended the funeral in a body.
Burial was in the Old Catholic Cemetery beside her husband, who preceded her in death 15 years ago.
The pallbearers were Felix Zurovec, Emil Jansky, Justin Machann, Charlie Wagner, Joe Zrubek, and Raymond Brunner.
The members of the K.J.Z.T. Lodge and Catholic Youth Organization gathered at the home Thursday night and said the rosary for the repose of her soul.
Mrs. Psencik was born in Austin County Feb. 18, 1855. She was 91 years and two days old at the time of her death.
Before her marriage to Anton Psencik in 1879, she was Miss Marie Kasparek. To this union, seven children were born. Four daughters and one son survive their mother. They are Mrs. Emma Machann of San Antonio, Mrs. Marie Zrubek of Bay City, Mrs. Antonia Harbich, Mrs. Annie Zurovec and Anton Psencik of Cistern. Seventeen grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and also a large number of nieces and nephews survive her.
Two sons, Frank and Henry, preceded their mother in death.
"Grandma" Psencik as she was affectionately called by everyone, lived most of her life in the Cistern community. She was a loving wife and mother, always ready to do her duty, whether she was needed in church work, by her family, or neighbors.
She broke her hip nine and a half years ago and was confined to her
wheelchair since. Her cheerful, smiling disposition, despite her intense suffering, won the love and sympathy of all who knew her.
She spent much of her time the last few years praying for the protection of the boys in service.
She was blessed with a clear mind and good memory to the end.
She made her home with her son and daughter-in-law at Cistern, for a number of years.
The large crowd that attended the funeral and the many beautiful flowers were testimony of the high respect and esteem in which she was held.
We join in extending sympathy to the family.
