Junior Leon Lee was born September 17, 1925, in Adair County, Mo., the son of John H. and Linnie (Hanlin) Lee, and died Friday, august [sic] 26, 1988, in a Columbia, Mo., hospital at the age of 62 years.
On July 25, 1945, in Green Castle, Mo., he married Sarah Louise Mabis, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Marah June Lee, Kirksville, Mo., and Velvie Jean Fortenberry, of California; four grandchildren, Gretchen Louise Peiffer, Sarah Kathleen Fortenberry, Amanda Joy Fortenberry, Amanda Joy Fortenberry, and Gavin Mikael McKim; his mother, Queen City; two brothers, Howard Lee, Greentop, and Harley Lee, Cheno [sic] Valley, Ariz.; one half-brother, Harry Lee, Ottumwa, Ia.; two half-sisters, Rosie Mullanix, Ottumwa, Ia., and Ella Mae Grub, Kirksville, Mo.; and sixteen nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; one half-brother, Willie Longberger [sic]; and one half-sister, Alma Kaster.
Mr. Lee was a teacher for 31 years. During his teaching career he taught at Novinger, Monticello, Lewistown and Canton-Williams school systems in Missouri. Eight years ago he retired due to ill health. He had made his home in Monticello the past 26 years.
During World War II, Mr. Lee served with the United States Army, and was a prison [sic] of war in France in 1944.
He was a member of the Monticello Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was Sunday School superintendent. He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post No. 578, Lewistown, Mo. He also served as a 4-H leader for many years.
Services for Mr. Lee were held Monday, August 29, 1988, in Davis Funeral Chapel, Canton, Mo. The Rev. Scott Montgomery conducted the services.
Burial was in Little Mountain Cemetery, Monticello, Mo., with military rites at the graveside.
