He was a retired coalminer and had been Democratic precinctman for three years. He served on the old Gillespie School Board and was a member of the Masonic Lodge Gillespie.
He was born in Mt. Olive on November 25, 1902.
Surviving are his widow, the former Helen Miller, whom he married September 28, 1928, in Edwardsville; and three sisters, Mrs. Mildred Frey and Mrs. Dorothy Bangert, both of Gillespie and Mrs. Luella Reckert of St. Louis.
The Rev. Glen Creek, pastor of the Gillespie United Methodist Church, will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Union Funeral Home in Gillespie and burial will be in Mt. Olive City Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be at 7:30 tonight.
