Robert Briggs was born January 30, 1854 in Aspin, Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, England, the Fourth child of James and Betsy Fielding Briggs. Hi father was a Methodist Minister who converted to Mormonism after listening to the missionaries. He left England in 1867 with his sister Nancy. Robert was thirteen years old and Nancy was seventeen. They sailed from England and then they crossed the plains with the ox teams enduring the rigors of a very difficult crossing. Soon after they arrived in Utah, Robert found work with Brigham Young. His Parents and younger siblings did not arrive until 1875. In 1875 he married Rachel Susan Robinson the daughter of Jeremiah Lagdon Robinson and Mary Harriet Osborn. Rachel was also from England. They had one child, Franklin Joseph Briggs born on 10 November 1876. By the time Franklin was born they had settled in Beaver.
